Body Modification and Passing Interviews

There is a great concern about the number of people being rejected for job posts that they are qualified to do just because they have certain body modifications that an interviewer may refer as offensive. There are some body modifications that people would look at as acceptable and some that they would not accept. This disparity in the type of body modification is acceptable to pass an interview, in my opinion should not exist and people should be judged on their abilities. This kind of view might be very popular among people with extreme body modification, but the reality is different. People are being judged on the type of body modification they have; further, some companies have dress codes that rule out any extreme body modification.

This article will deal with the reasons why people with organic ear gauges of 12g-00g are finding it hard to pass interviews. To start with, I would like to mention that body modification has been practiced by the human race for thousands of years. As such, body modification cannot be viewed as something new. However, there are different reasons why people do it today. In today’s society, people are doing for beauty or for self-expression.

Therefore, when one goes to an interview with stretched ears and unique body plugs, the interviewer might view this person as being rebellious which is not a characteristic that a company might want in its employees. The other reason that a person with 12g-00g jewelry ear plugs might get rejected in an interview is the company’s concern about its client’s perception of the company. Since such an employee would be representing the company, the clients might associate the company as supporting some gang activities. This is because some gang members have extreme body modification associated with them. This type of prejudice is changing and in the near future people will be more tolerant with body modification.
